Mega SD Newest Firmware

01 Feb 2020, 23:16

I updated to the newest firmware (MegaSD_firmware_1.04_R09) this is the first time I have used the device. The issues, first it sometimes doesn't load at all just a blank screen I have to take the cart out and put it back in and restart the seems to be consistent, if the cart is in it will not load afetr toggling the power switch. When I try to change options it will freeze. I have to do the above to get back. I have tried loading in BIOS's for CD use and they all come up with a weird set of characters (fafa etc) I have tried some region free bios and the all freeze at the cd load bios load screen. Also the physical makeup of the case makes it hard to push the SD cards in I have to use a object to push it in for it to grab (this is just a note not a deal breaker)

Also get a 1 in 10 chance of getting past a black screen with no card in at all. The options freeze when I try to back out of the menu after making changes with a card in.

What console are you using this on?

If it's a Mega Sg, you must ensure that the Reset type is set to HARD in the options menu on the MegaSD menu.

Are you using an original Sega Power supply or a third party one?

Some of the lower spec 3rd party ones are woefully under powered for the MegaSD.

It is an original Sega Power supply. I have couple of them, so I will try a different one as well as I have an EVO card so I am swapping it out for a sandisk ultra UHI. I will report back.

So new power supply also Sega Genesis Original (different model) , new SD card Sandisk 64g UHS-I formatted EXFAT. Loads up to Mega SD menu 2 out of 15 times. a couple times it loaded and showed no card (this was the case with the other card also, didn't mention it) seems to load to menu without a card in. When I do get to a menu with the card it sees the games and I can play genesis games. If I try to alter a menu item it won't save it just freezes. Not sure what to do.

Try formatting the card to FAT32. While ExFat is supported, we have seen some folks have issues with it and going back to FAT32 works for them.

3rd Card now formatted to FAT32 with only 1 CD Image and 3 BIOS images in MD format. Will not load tried 10 times, took card out would not load tried twice , tried previous EXFAT card (SANDISK) would not load tried twice. Feels like I am not getting the results others are.
