Choppy sound with Vay

16 Aug 2019, 11:58

Hello,
I'm getting choppy sound with Vay (for example at the intro) with Mega SD. I don't understand why because I've seen a video where the sound is perfect. Could it be my microSD? I'm using a SandDisk 16 Gbytes class 10 micro SD. Have someone experienced this with similar micro SD?
P.S. I forgot. : I have the Emulate Seek Time activated but the sound at the intro is still choppy.
Thanks.

I would try another SD card and see if it happens there.

Im not hearing any choppy sound with Vay.

What type of files are you using for Vay? I would recommend only using redump bin+cue files for Sega CD games.

Yes, redump sets are the best.

Lots of crappy rips out there.

Hello,
it's a bin+cue dump but I don't know if it's a good one (it's from rom hustler). I'll try with a different micro SD.
P.S. I've found a website with redumps from Sega CD. I'll try with the Vay redump from that site before copying the files to a different micro SD.
Thank you.

I've tried with a redump bin+cue but it also has choppy sound. I'll buy a faster (and bigger) micro sd and I'll try again.
Thanks.

Ensure you are running the cd region corresponding to your console region. Running a ntsc game on a pal console or thr opposite causes issues with video playing due to different framerates.

Ah, that's my case! I have a PAL console and since Vay didn't come to Europe, the only versions I can run are the US and the Jap version, so I chose the US version. Maybe i should modify my Mega Drive so I can switch between 50 and 60 Hz.
Thank you!

Modding a PAL Mega Drive to switch between 50/60 hz is highly recommended!

Games which have not been adjusted to 50 hz just run about 17% slower on a PAL console.

Sonic 1 is a good example, see here...

Yes, you're right! I knew that because I have a MSX TurboR (japanese) which runs at 60hz and the game musics sound as they should be in that japanese model but in PAL MSX computers they sound slower. Some years ago I wanted to modify my PAL Mega Drive but I didn't find someone who could do it in Barcelona, Spain (I also want to do the same to my Super Nintendo).
Thank you!
