Distorted top of image

10 Jul 2019, 01:19

PCEngine model: Original White - PI-TG001

Power Supply: Official Sega Megadrive (model 1) UK Power Supply

Video cable: RGB Scart screened cable

SD card brand: Sandisk

Region modded?: No

SSDS3 revision 2

In Game Trigger enabled in the Options menu? off

RGB Scart connected to JVC DT-V1710CG BVM

Top of picture is warped when playing on JVC DT-V1710CG BVM. Tested with 2 separate RGB Scart cables and fault is the same.

Connecting to an upscaler using same RGB cables and warping is not present on HD TV.

JVC DT-V1710CG BVM works perfectly with SNES and PS1 connected through their own RGB Scart cables.

This video shows the warping when playing Batman game on JVC DT-V1710CG BVM

This video shows the same PC Engine using the same RGB scart cable and upscaled on HD Tv..

Thanks

Is your cable using sync on composite video? I would venture a guess that it is.

I am not sure. What sync should I be using?

The cable I purchased does not list what sync it uses

You want csync. Sounds like you probably bought cheap eBay cables.

I'd sooner suspect the monitor itself rather than the cable (though csync is indeed preferable to cvbs sync). Some monitors simply don't like the weird PC Engine signal. Some BVMs for example need to engage "VCR mode" to fix flagging at the top of the picture. An Extron RGB interface that can add serration pulses usually fixes this kind of problem also.
