MODE - Storage Setup tips

01 Jul 2020, 21:26

While we finish the manual up (it's written, it's just being made more attractive), here are tips for setting up your drives.

Format your microSD, USB or SATA drive to either Fat32 or exFAT. We suggest exFAT with MBR partitions.

Create a folder on the root of your drive called Saturn or Dreamcast.

Copy your game folders there. Don't just throw all the bin and cue files in one folder. Games need to be in their own folders. Games must be unzipped.

Multi disc games can either be in separate folders or combined into one folder.

My man!!! Thanks for this. I've been interested in this information how to prep my cards/drives so that I can have them ready the day the MODE gets here. I'll start prepping them today and cross my fingers that I get a shipping notice soon.

I have all the separate games together in a folder, with their .bin and their .track1 .track2 .track3 ......... is there any way or some .bat for me to create a folder of each game with the files inside ? To do it by hand is to waste time and death

Sadly this falls outside of TerraOnion's responsibility. I'm sure someone can create a program to this this, but the program you used to extract your files almost definitely has a "Extract to folders" option which you should have used.

No. Everything needs to be unzipped in their own folder.

Select all zipped files. Right click. Extract each archive to separate folder.

One cool addition to the Advanced Cover Art would also be a way to let the system recognise sorting folders. I created some subfolders in the main folders.

Like Saturn (invisible) -> US / JP / EU -> A, B, C... -> Game roms

Currently it just shows "folder". Otherwise the storage gets a bit overflown and this way everything looks nice and clean.

@Ghoost11 - trust me this is no work at all. Other ODEs for the Saturn are a nightmare compared. Like you have to convert every file into a single readable file for the ODE... the MODE just swallows everything. Haven't seen it picky ;)
