Cartridge compatibility with Mega SD

27 Sep 2019, 01:06

First post, and this is a serious question--can the internals of the Mega SD physically fit inside any other Mega Drive/Genesis cartridge types? For example, older EA Sports titles, like Madden 95, have a bit more height than standard carts.

Completely realize that dremeling/hacking for screw holes and SD access would be necessary, but my question is whether there is physically enough space to house the PCB and all components. As much as I love the Mega SD, I'm just not a fan of the Virtua Racer cart mould. Thanks for any insight!

EA carts are pretty fugly, so it's not that much of a surprise that nobody's tried to replace the beautiful, sleek, VR style case with one. ;)

I'm just eyeballing, but I think the board is probably a little too wide to fit in EA and Accolade carts.

Horses for courses, dear. And that wasn't the question anyway.

It sounds like the VR case is the only one that could hold the internals. My Mega SD is still en route; if I'm able to 3D print or hack my way to victory in some other way, I'll update this thread.
