SD Card

05 Sep 2019, 22:44

Just thinking about what make and model SD cards people are using with their carts.

Using a 256GB Sandisk Extreme Plus which gives enough room for a complete region collection (CDs, MD, MS), but directory access speed on the CD images is a little on the slow side, even after separating them out into regions, A-L, M-Z etc in order to cut down on reads when jumping in between directories. Multiple bin files probably not helping.

Can be a little frustrating, but obviously it's a balancing act with the amount of data being accessed, but wondering what other people's impressions are with full sets ?

I'm using a "SanDisk 200GB Ultra Microsdxc UHS-I" 200GB, and directories load instantly. I organized my sega cd section in groups of letters like [A-F], [H-N] and so on.

I would suggest checking if your card is a legit one, and not a copy. There are hordes of conterfeit cards on the market now, even sold accidentally by amazon and others. You can find tools online that will check your card and detect if its a fake one.

We are working on a directory caching update that should speed up this scanning of the folders.

Oh nice. It seems as if my proposal might be considered. Fantastic! :-)

Good to hear Todd !

Certainly some sort of indexing or caching might help, as it can a bit unwieldy having to separate out all the CD images into multiple directories just to save on access time.
