Reboots and glitches on every game

24 Apr 2018, 01:41

Hello,

I am posting this in a separate topic because many bugs on same thread get lost and nobody reads all the posts.

This will focus on original PCE games, AND Super CDROM.

Hardware : Tested with 2 x PCE white + 1 x Core grafx 1 + 1x Coregrafx 2
SD card : Sandisk 128gb Ultra Fat32 and Exfat
PSU : Tested with Retrogamesupply, Original PSU with stepdown, Genesis
Video cable : Genesis 2 Packapunch from Retrogamingcables + Genesis original cable
Region modded : NO
SSDS3 Revision : 1
Ingame trigger disabled
CRT display : Sony PVM 20L4 + Gscart switcher
Problems : Game freezes suddenly after some time on demo loop (colored screen, garbled image with horrible sound, loss of sync...)
Games tested : PC Genjin 1, Soldier Blade (Jap), Castelvania

I already mailed this before but I was told I am the only one to have this issue so I am looking if anyone run with same problems.

@OP

It helps to state what rom source you are using too. Could be a bad dump?

These games work fine on my core grafx setup using the latest smokemonster pce/Tg16 rom pack.

Wrong game. PC Genjin is the japanese version of Bonk 1, not Air Zonk

Looks like the problems I have on my rev1. However on my rev1 it does that type of stuff on every game, hucard or CD.

Will check mine tomorrow, but can't say I've seen that behaviour on v1 or v2. Could be a bad solder connection on the RAM maybe - assuming its not a timing glitch that needs a firmware update. Will let you know!

It's a Rev1, I didn't test too much hucard games except soldier blade and pc genjin 1, but the only games I have tested give me these glitches between 10-30 minutes, I thought it was my console, but after testing 4 consoles, many sd cards, cleaning every contact I just gave up trying to fix it.

The rom came from smokemonster pack, japanese version of the game, however I don't have any bug on everdrive hardware, so I guess the rom is fine.

I have just tested castlevania on super cd rom I could finish 2 levels without any hicup, didn't try to go further but I'm going to play it this week end.

I am really surprised no one reported this before, everything was focused on RGB issues which is the most visible problem, but these bugs definetely make it unplayable, so it's worth trying to understand where it comes from.
