no audio

05 Jul 2020, 00:34

Hi there, just purchased myself an SSD3. This was to supersede a cheap bare-board AV booster I have been using with RGB scart along with an everdrive card. I have fired up a few games (hucard and cdroms) and have no sound at all. I have read the FAQs along with several other threads that talk about this and the advice seems to be that you've got a MD2 scart cable wired for mono audio, get a new/better stereo one. I assumed my cable was mono and that this was the issue until I reconnected the AV booster board and everdrive and ran the "240p test suite" for PC engine. it has an audio test where you can test left and right channels, i can clearly hear left and right separated on my TV and via headphones (to minimise any doubt) so I am assuming this isn't the issue! Does anyone know what else the issue might be and what I can try?

My setup:
White (JP) PC engine
MD2 RGB Scart
Bang and Olufsen MX4002 CRT
SSD3 rev1 (no terraonion URL on board)

Who or where did you buy this from?

Any other RGB cables to test with?

Hi Todd, got this as a new/open box via a seller on eBay, pretty hard to come by any other way here in UK. I don't have another Gen2 RGB scart cable to test this with but the cable seems to work fine in the cheapo AV booster I have, and with stereo audio.

I have seen people recommend this cable https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/pac ... le-tv-lead but I'd rather not go and get another cable if there is something more fundamentally wrong with the device. Is there any other way i can test ?

I'm taking the plunge with a retrogaming.co.uk cable to see if that helps, I don't see how but will try anyway and at least I'll end up with a top quality cable. Any other suggestions Todd?

Frustrating if it does and I had to buy a £30 cable to get the SSD3 to work where the £15 throwaway AV booster from China worked perfectly first time with a generic MD2 cable that cost £4.

Well, if you bought a used unit, it could very well be damaged.
