(question) Is it better to use sd card formatted with fat 32 or exFat ??

16 Jun 2020, 20:24

HI !
A simple question : fat 32 or exFat ?
I can read on internet that :
" Generally speaking, exFAT drives are faster at writing and reading data than FAT32 drives. ... Apart from writing large files to the USB drive, exFAT outperformed FAT32 in all tests. "

Does it make any difference with the Super sd system 3 ??

Not really.

Some people have issues with formatting their cards to exfat.

While I'm not at all an authority on the inner workings of the SSDS3, I have a strong suspicion that there's no real functional difference between FAT32 and exFAT in this context. There's no way you're going to need to use a MicroSD that's bigger than 8TB here, all TG16 CD games are well under the maximum 4GB file size that FAT32 allows, and the speeds required for reading in real time from a CD are so laughably slow by today's standards that I can't imagine speed differences having any appreciable effect. I think it's great for compatibility that they support exFAT, and it is a more modern format in a lot of ways, but for the most part I think you should probably just use whichever one is easiest for you.
