Component or S-Video?

01 Feb 2019, 10:33

I'm wanting to use my pc-engine with my retrotink and I'm curious if one of the benefits of the super sd system is that it will work over component or s-video. Everything I've seen just says RGB, but stoneage gamer also sells composite cables with their units. I attempted to search the forms, but apparently the word video it too generic for the search haha.

I don’t think you’ll find any Genesis/MD Mk. II S-video cables. The only component ones I know about are HD Retrovision’s...I don’t see any reason why they *wouldn’t* work, but I can’t confirm. Would be good to hear if they do!

EDIT: cursory search on this board indicates that the HD Retrovision cables *do* work.

HDRetrovision cables do provide component video and will be equivalent to RGB output. S-Video is not natively available. You would need an internal mod in the console or a separate RGB to s-video circuit.

Awesome, component will suffice then! I'm pretty sure it's technically higher quality than s-video anyway. Thanks!

Component is always better than S-Video. The best video output you can get on CRT North American T.V's anyways.
